Say hello to some TLC

Well that’s training learning and care.

What morning did we forget to look after ourselves. When was it that we started to wake up at stupid o clock thinking of all the things we needed to do, all the plates we have to spin. What year was it when we decided running a business was a good idea.

As a freelancer, a consultant, a small business owner (whatever you want to call me) there’s been many a time when people have said; ‘oh you’re so lucky to work for yourself, you’ve got it so good’ (or words to that effect).

And there has been many a time where I’ve counted my lucky stars that I can and do work for myself, times where I have been able to juggle the work load so I can make the smalls’ Christmas shows (although sometimes I’m not sure that’s a plus), or make an emergency pick-up or even just feck it all off and go for a coffee with a friend, but then there’s the days when you are the business owner, trying to make decisions that makes your head hurt whilst delivering on client demands and trying to get to the post office before 5pm.

As a business owner sometimes all you want, all you need is someone to tell you that you’ve made the right decision, that it’s going to be okay.

And that’s why I developed the C.A.R.E. in comms framework. I realised that even in business everyone needs a person, their person (you will mainly only get that if you watch Grey’s Anatomy).

Everyone running a small business, whether you call yourself a freelancer, a consultant or you’re looking to grow and develop your team needs ongoing TLC; that’s training, learning and care.

TLC providing ongoing reminders that the good work starts with you and without looking after yourself (more important than ever in these stupid times) then developing and growing your business is going to feel like pushing water uphill.

Having someone to check in with; especially in the early days of a start-up, means you keep on track but also have a sounding board and then; there is that all important accountability.

Slimming World and Weight Watchers have had it nailed for years; making someone accountable even if it is through the humiliation of a public weigh-in is more likely to keep that person on track and losing weight.

My C.A.R.E framework is just that, providing you with hints and tips to keep you on track, helping you look after you and providing accountability and a community to help you thrive. There’s just no public weigh in.

All you need is some TLC.
